Large seawater lagoons and lido systems now possible with the minimum of filtration when ACO, NoPhos and APF products are used to treat the water.   Perfotmance factor of public swimming pool systems reduced to less than 2 giving an 80% to 90% reduction in chlorine consumption.
Schematics of a desalination system
Dryden Aqua are marine biologists specialising in the mechanical filtration of seawater for the aquaculture industries.  AFM® will physically remove particles half the size of the smallest particle than can be removed by sand filters.  However in addition to the physical filtration of solids, AFM® also has surface active properties and the media will adsorb micron, sub-microns as well as dissolved organics from the water.  Indeed we are working on the next generation of AFM® that will work as well as activated carbon,  but it will never need to be replaced. AFM® will already remove most of the organics from the water especially if pre-coagulation and flocculation is used.

System specification.

The performance of any media bed filtration system be it sand or AFM® will vary inversely proportionally to the flow of water through the filter bed, so the slower the run phase water flow the better the performance.  It can sometimes be a false economy to use high water flow rates to reduce the capital cost and foot print of the system, as it may result in extra running costs for the membranes.  In all cases irrespective of water flowrate, AFM® will out performance sand, anthracite or expanded clays.

  • water flow through the AFM® filters, 5 to 10 m3 hr-1 m2 of filter bed surface area, absolute maximum is 15m3 hr-1 m2

  • recommended filter air purge rate 90 m3 hr-1 m2 of filter bed surface area

  • back-wash flow rate 40 to 60 m3 hr-1 m2 of filter bed surface area
