Large seawater lagoons and lido systems now possible with the minimum of filtration when ACO, NoPhos and APF products are used to treat the water.   Perfotmance factor of public swimming pool systems reduced to less than 2 giving an 80% to 90% reduction in chlorine consumption.

Aquatic Displays, with no fish or aquatic life

An amusement park aquatic feature before and after the addition of NoPhos.  The progression from a dirty green pond with very high bacterial levels to clear bright water took approximately 6 weeks.  After the addition of NoPhos there will be an instant flocculation reaction in which the phosphate is removed. NoPhos has a low toxicity so it will not instantly kill the bacteria and algae like chlorine, instead the bacteria and algae are starved to death.  This process will take several weeks or months depending on the pollution level in the water.  However once the process has been completed  it is then very easy to maintain clean clear water in the system.

Click each picture to enlarge. The series show the change in the clarity of the pond from a dirty green to a clear bright water. The algae levels have dropped to zero and the bacterial levels have been reduced from around 2 million per ml to approximately 100 per ml.

Benefits

NoPhos has a positive charge and acts both as a Flocculent  and as a phosphate precipitating agent.

NoPhos reacts with soluble reactive phosphate to form and insoluble precipitate, the reaction is stoichiometric (see equation below)  By carefully controlling the phosphate level you can control the growth of plants and algae.  If an aquarium has a high turbidity caused by algae, then NoPhos can be used to reduce the phosphate food source and gradually over a period of a few weeks reduce the algae levels. Phosphate is also required by bacteria, so if a large dose of NoPhos is used then bacteria will also be prevented from growing.   The net result is very clean clear water, with a very low oxidation or chlorine demand, indeed on some system we no longer need to use chlorine.

NoPhos  +   PO4-3 = NoPhos PO4 (s)

1kg of NoPhos will remove approximately 100g of Phosphate as PO4 - P

or

300g  of NoPhos will remove 100g of Phosphate when expressed at PO4

How to use NoPhos

Example.

  1. Measure to total phosphate content of the water. If the concentration is 0.2mg/l as PO4-P, and the system volume is 20,000 cubic meters, there there will be , 4 kg of phosphate in the water, the system will require 40 kg of NoPhos, or 80 litres of NoPhos concentrate to remove the phosphate. This quantity of phosphate may be added manually to water over a period of a few days.  The water will go cloudy, but then it will clear after a few days.  If possible remove the deposit that will collect on the bottom of the pond. If the precipitate can not be removed then it will be okay,  the phosphate is locked away.

  2. Once the phosphate has been removed the water feature then only requires a maintenance dose which will be approximately equal to 1ml to  2ml of NoPhos per cubm of water in the feature per week. For example, if the water feature is 20,000 cubic metres, you need to add 20,000ml to 40,000ml per week = 20 to 40 litres.  This is just a guide application rate, it may have to be increased if phosphate is being added to the system in the make-up water or from other sources.
