Large seawater lagoons and lido systems now possible with the minimum of filtration when ACO, NoPhos and APF products are used to treat the water.   Perfotmance factor of public swimming pool systems reduced to less than 2 giving an 80% to 90% reduction in chlorine consumption.

NoPhos

Phosphate , bacteria and algae control
NoPhos is available at a hydrated crystalline product or as a 50% concentrate solution

NoPhos can be added directly to the pool once the public have left for the evening,  or it may be dissolved in water and dosed in front of the AFM or sand filters.  NoPhos will react with phosphates in the water to form an insoluble precipitate that will be removed by the filters. Bacteria and algae require phosphate as a micro nutrient, if you remove phosphate you effectively stop the growth of bacteria and algae.  NoPhos reduces chlorine demand and combined chlorine by approximately 60%, system hygiene is improved and bacteria load on the system decreases.

 In a sand filter 5% of the weight of sand may be organic matter and bacteria, AFM filter media has on average 1 million times lower bacteria levels so the retained organic matter and bacterial load is much lower.  This is one of the reason why NoPhos works better with AFM .  When you use NoPhos to keep the phosphate level at zero, the  organic load and bacteria in the filters will gradually decrease, this will normally take 2 to 4 months, after which time the combined chlorine levels will start to drop.  Typical combined chlorine levels achieved are 0.1 to 0.3mg/l or a 60% reduction in previous  concentrations, and all this is achieved by adding a small amount of NoPhos

How to use NoPhos

Hand dosing

NoPhos may be added by hand to the balancing flow tank or pool at the end of the day after the public have left the pool. Can be added in daily or weekly quantities.  If the product is added once a week,  it is best added to the water after a filter back-wash.  The mains tap water can contain high levels of phosphate, NoPhos should  therefore be used when ever a large quantity of mains water is introduced to the system.

 System

Application Rates  powder NoPhos
 Amount of NoPhos required per week, per cubic meter of water in the pool
Private swimming pool0.5g to 1.0g per week
Public swimming pool1g to 2 g per week
Public Spa2 to 5 g per week

Example calculation 1. private pool

Private pool, with a water volume of 50 cubic meters = 11,000 gallons

NoPhos application rate = 0.5 g to 1.0 g of NoPhos per cubic metre of water per week, => 0.5 x 50 to 1.0 x 50

Amount of NoPhos required per week = 25g to 50g  ( or 50 to 100ml of NoPhos concentrate)

Example Calculation 2. public pool

Public pool with a water volume of 500 cubic meters

NoPhos application rate = 1g to 2g of NoPhos per cubic metre of water per week, => 1 x 500 to 2 x 500

Amount of NoPhos required per week = 500g to 1000g  ( or 1 to 2 litres of NoPhos concentrate)

Automatic dosing

For best results NoPhos should be dosed continuously into the water prior to the AFM or sand filters.  Dissolve 1 Kg pack of  NoPhos (or 2 litres of NoPhos concentrate) into 20 litres of water and use a peristaltic pump to continuously dose into the pipe work before the sand or AFM filters. Larger quantities or stronger concentrations may be prepared, and the dose rate adjusted accordingly. For best results you should use a Dryden Aqua ZPM (Zeta Potential Mixer).  The ZPM unit simply flanges into the the pipework between the AFM / sand filter and the pump.  The NoPhos is then dosed into the pipe-work between the ZPM unit and the pump.

To make Nophos stock solution for automatic dosing at 1 kg of NoPhos crystals to 20 litres of water, or 2 litres of NoPhos concentrate to 20 litres of water in a sutable carbout of tank.

The dosing rate for the diluted NoPhos solution is as follows

SystemApplication Rates for diluted NoPhos solution
1 kg  (or 2 litres of concentrate) of Nophos dissolved in 20 litres of clean water, is dosed into the pool water at the following rates
 Amount of NoPhos require in ml per cubic metre of water passed through the AFM or sand filters
private pool0.5 to 1 ml
public pool0.5 to 1 ml
public Spa2.0 to 5.0 ml

Example calculation 1. private pool

Private pool with a water volume of 50 cubm and filtration rate of 10 cubm/hr through the filters

NoPhos application rate = 0.5ml to 1.0ml of NoPhos per cubic metre of water filter per hour => 0.5 x 10 to 1.0 x 10  => 5ml to 10ml per hour

Dosing accurately such a small quantities of solution can be a problem, if you wish to increase the dose rate you may need to dilute the stock solution, so instead of adding 1 kg of NoPhos Crystals or 2 litres of NoPhos concentrate,  to 20 litres of clean water,  you only at 100g of NoPhos crystals or 200ml of NoPhos concentrate, to 20 litres of clean water, and then dose at a rate of 50ml hr to 100 ml/hr,  this can make it much easier to dose,  but you will now go through the stock solution very 1 to 2 weeks.  You may use a different dilution factor to give you the time interval desired.

Example Calculation 2. public pool

Public pool with a water volume of 500 cubic meters, and filtration rate of 120 cubm/hr

NoPhos application rate = 1ml to 2ml of NoPhos per cubic metre of water per week, => 1 x 120 to 2 x 120 = 120ml/hr to 240 ml/hr
