Large seawater lagoons and lido systems now possible with the minimum of filtration when ACO, NoPhos and APF products are used to treat the water.   Perfotmance factor of public swimming pool systems reduced to less than 2 giving an 80% to 90% reduction in chlorine consumption.
Technical specificationNoPhos

NoPhos homeMSDS data sheetWhat is NoPhos

 NoPhos is prepared by Dryden Aqua from the rare earth element,  the product has four properties with regards to water treatment;

  1. Phosphate precipitation
  2. Slows down or stops algae and bacterial growth by removing their food source
  3. Flocculation, NoPhos is an excellent flocculent, when used before AFM® solids down to 1 micron may be filtered from the water. The product works synergistically with AFM®
  4. Bio-Catalyst, when added to activated sludge systems, the NoPhos will create a large stable bacterial floc, which can enhance and stabilise nitrification and BOD reduction

 Benefits from using NoPhos

  1. Aquaria systems;  removes phosphates, reduces algae levels improves water clarity

  2. Swimming pools & Aquatic Parks; used at a higher level than aquaria, NoPhos will almost eliminate phosphate and make the water clearer. Also because phosphate is required as a trace nutrient for algae and bacteria, NoPhos will reduce or prevent bacterial growth.  Combined chlorine and THM levels will also be reduced. The process takes around 2 to 3 months for full benefits to be realised

  3. Water & Wastewater treatment;  flocculation of solids and phosphate control, best used before AFM® filtration, will remove solids down to 1 micron

  4. Activated sludge, generates large stable bacteria floc, enhances nitrification

  5. Lakes & Ponds;  removes phosphates, controls algae blooms, makes the water clearer

Why use AFM® as opposed to sand ?Media bed filtration is a key element in phosphate removal systems. Sand filters act as an excellent support matrix for bacteria, especially bacteria such as Pseudomonas species that produce a extra cellular alginates. The alginates trap solids and promote the growth of more bacteria that eventually cause coagulation of the  filter bed. However during the interim period,  the organics trapped by the alginate are subjected to mineralisation and may release nitrogen and phosphates back into the product water.  AFM® does not support bacteria, therefore there will be less organics held within the bed and less to no release of phosphate back into the product water.AFM® and NoPhos combined reactions, re phosphate removal

AFM® (Active Filter Media) carries a surface -ve charge, when NoPhos   is used in combination with AFM® filter media  a high percentage of the catalyst not reacted with the phosphate will combine with the AFM® enhancing the surface active properties of AFM® .   The NoPhos  is then free to react with phosphate to form insoluble phosphate in the filter bed which is then removed on the next back-flush

NoPhos  +   PO4-3 = NoPhos PO4 (s)

1kg of NoPhos will remove approximately 100g of Phosphate as PO4 -P ( or 300g of PO4)

AFM® and NoPhos catalytic oxidation reactions
Any NoPhos on the surface of AFM® filtration media  will be available for the catalytic oxidation of organics in the presence of oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, ozone or chlorine.  This technique can be used for the cracking or prescribed  toxic chemicals in water and waste water treatment systems..  In clean water systems such as drinking water and Aquariums, the combination of AFM® and NoPhos will remove solids, phosphates and decolourise the water. The systems reduce the need or eliminate the requirement to use ozone, UV or advanced oxidation systems.
