Tertiary Treatment of sewage effluent Site B

Site B tertiary treatment system   started 3/12/03.  The unit is installed on a small sewage works with two gravel bed biofilters followed by a humus tank.

The works are achieving border line compliance, but it is costing a great deal  keeping the works  in compliance.

The pilot scale system takes its water before the humus tank,  solids level is approx. 100mg/l in the feed water.  The effluent water quality is approx. 5 mg/l. The filter is back-flushed back to the sludge collection tank, or to the beginning of the works. The system negates the need for a humus tank, simplifies the operation of the works, and provides for a great deal better water quality in the discharge.

Water samples were taken 14/1/04, after the unit had been running for approximately 4 weeks. The results are shown by the photos on the right,  the results were stunning.

The trial will continue for a further 8 weeks on the site,  however on the basis of the data received from this site, and other long term trials over the last few years,  it would appear that AFM® will produce a predictable, stable and a stunning water quality.
